Further to my previous emails on bus registrations, the School District has received over 4,100 bus registrations for the current school year. This amount represents a growth of over 49% since the 2015/16 school year (the last time bus fees were charged) while at the same time, our enrollment growth in the District has been 9%. It is believed that a portion of this growth is attributable to the removal of bus fees and parents wanting abackup plan in the event their normal mode of transportation is not available.
The increased registration has caused strain on the District’s transportation network and the Board of Education is considering adding new routes to address the increase in ridership which would result in funding being redirected from the classroom. Prior to making that decision, the Board would like an understanding of which families continue to require transportation services this school year. The Board realizes individual circumstances may have changed since the registration process opened last spring and therefore the District is asking families to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org only if you no longer require transportation services for this current school year.
This information will provide greater certainty to the Board and will allow the important funding decisions to be made. We would ask that any families opting out of the transportation services send the email prior to October 3rd at 4:00 pm.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to work
through these challenges.
