NEW- Lottery system for French Immersion Kindergarten & Nature Kindergarten registration

Due to high demand for French Immersion kindergarten and Nature Kindergarten, we often receive more registrations than we can accommodate for. If this is the case, a lottery will take place.

For French Immersion Kindergarten:

The lottery will follow the Student Enrolment Priorities and students will be placed in the order in which they are drawn.

Example: a school has 40 available seats.

– 20 catchment area children with a sibling in the school apply,
– 10 catchment area children apply, and
– 15 non-catchment children apply.

The 20 catchment area children with siblings in the schools will be placed, followed by the 10 catchment area children. A lottery will take place for the 15 non-catchment children for the remaining 10 seats.

For Nature Kindergarten:

The lottery will follow the unique enrolment priorities for Nature Kindergarten and students will be placed in the order in which they are drawn.

The first nine in-catchment girls and nine boys as well as two aboriginal students drawn will be placed. Out of district requests will be considered only after in-district requests.

A wait list will be established according to the lottery. The lottery process will be based on a school-by-school basis.

Student enrolment is based on the following:

  1. re-enrolling students
  2. a catchment area child with a sibling currently attending the school
  3. a catchment area child
  4. a non-catchment child with a sibling currently attending the school
  5. a non-catchment child
  6. a non-school district child
