District and Pacheedaht Nation proudly sign Local Education Agreement
PORT RENFREW – Today marked an important step forward in the partnership between School District No.62, Sooke and the Pacheedaht First Nation. The signing of our Local Education Agreement represents the commitments and obligations SD62 and Pacheedaht First Nation have for educating students from the Nation. The Board of Education, District Staff and principals and vice-principals were welcomed to the traditional lands of the Pacheedaht people for this important event.
As a school district we are committed to improving First Nation Student outcomes and to that end we are pleased to announce the signing of a Local Education Agreement with the Pacheedaht First Nation. Today’s signing is the culmination of many months of work between the district and the Nation founded on mutual respect and strong relationships. The district would like to thank Pacheedaht, Chief Jones and Council for their commitment to this work.
The school district is committed to reconciliation and strengthening partnerships with all Indigenous peoples that it serves. SD62 proudly values its partnership with the Pacheedaht Nation and this Local Education Agreement is one way we commit to promoting and achieving effective working relationships now and going forward.
