As you may have
heard, Belmont Secondary School was in lockout today from approximately 11:00
a.m. to 1:15 p.m. RCMP and the school received information at
approximately 11:00 a.m. that a fight was planned on or close to Belmont
grounds. A post on social media reported that a number of non-Belmont
youth were planning on a fight which may have involved weapons.
School staff and
RCMP took the threat seriously and the school went immediately into
lockout. Staff and students remained in classrooms while RCMP, district
staff and school administrators patrolled the exterior of the school.
RCMP located the individuals involved, at which point the lockout was ended.
The students are currently on lunch break and will finish their last block of
the day with a regular dismissal time.
Miller has sent a message to all Belmont parents informing them of the
information mentioned above. The staff, students and RCMP worked very
co-operatively and there were no incidents during the lockout.
