As a growing school district, we are committed to providing eligible students with safe school bus transportation to and from school.

School Bus Registration for 2017/18 will once again be available online!

 

The online school bus registration will once again be available on our SD62 School Cash Online website.

To register your students for the school bus you will need to create a School Cash online account.   Don’t have an account yet?   It is easy to sign up for one!   Need Help?

The registration window will be open from May 4 – June 5, 2017 at 9:00 pm PST.  Students must be registered during this period to ensure a seat on the school bus.

Bus Routes

Bus routes for the 2017-18 school year will be established based on online bus registrations received on or before Monday, June 5, 2017 at 9:00 pm PST.   At this point, the registration process will close which will allow staff to summarize the number and location of riders in order to determine the routes and times for next year.  It is anticipated that the times and routes will be communicated to registered riders prior to the end of the school year.

Bus Fee Update

Due to anticipated government funding, the SD62 Board of Education has decided that bus fees for all SD62 school bus riders will not be charged for the 2017/2018 school year.

Since bussing is “free” can my child just take the bus?
No. ALL riders must be registered for the school bus in the SD62 School Cash Online program.

Any student not on a driver list or without a pass may not be let on the bus.

Bus Passes

Bus Passes are issued near the beginning of each school year. All fully paid middle and secondary students will receive a pass and must carry it as proof of ridership. Drivers will check for passes. Students without passes may be refused.

Permanent bus passes that are misplaced will cost $10 to replace. Please contact the Transportation Department to replace a bus pass.

Elementary and Kindergarten students do not receive passes. Schools will have a list of registered students and they will be checked off as they board the bus. NOTE: Students in grades K-3 will not be let off the bus unless met by an adult or older sibling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all bus riders need to register every year?

Yes, all riders from kindergarten to Grade 12 need to be registered. Riders MUST register during the registration window. Riders not registered during this window may not be eligible to take the bus.

Do all students get bus passes?

Only middle and secondary students get passes. Kindergarten and elementary students are checked off from a list at the school.

What if the pass is lost?

A replacement pass costs $10.00.  Please call the Transportation department at 250-478-9845 if you need to re-issue a pass.

Why do we need to register during the "registration window"?

In order to know which routes and how many buses will be required for the coming school year, we need to know how many riders we will have.

It also helps:

  • To ease the craziness of the beginning of the school year.
  • Us plan our budget projections and set bus routes before the school year begins.

What if I don’t register my child during the "registration window"?

Students registered after the registration window will automatically be placed on a wait list. Parents will be notified sometime during late August as to whether or not their child has a seat on a bus.

 

I changed addresses over the summer, can I still register?

Yes, families who move over the summer will be able to register outside of the registration window. Proof of address change may be required.

Our family just moved into SD62, can I still register for the school bus?

Families who move into our school district will be able to register outside of the registration window.

 

 

Can drivers add a stop or change a route?

Drivers can suggest changes or a parent can call the Transportation Department, but the final decision rests with the Transportation Department.

Will I receive a call if the bus is late?

Unfortunately we don’t have the technology to notify parents about bus times and locations. For buses that face large delays, we will do our best to get communication out via the District’s social media pages.

All bus runs are completed, even if late.

Who do I call if the buses are running late?

The Transportation Department at 250-474-9845

Can my child bring a friend on the bus?

Yes providing there is space on the bus and a signed note of permission from the parent of the friend is received.

Should I call if my child is not on the bus?

Only if your child is registered on a special needs bus or if your child is the only one at a stop that is “out of the way.”

Can my child be accommodated if they have different pick-up or drop off locations?

Please contact the Transportation Department for confirmation. We will try to meet the needs of the student and family if possible.

Can I ride on the bus with my child?

Only registered students may ride. Parents and pre-school children are not allowed on the bus.

Can my child bring hockey equipment on the bus?

Hockey equipment is not allowed on the bus. Only items that do not pose a safety hazard and can be held on the student’s lap or under their seat are allowed on the bus.

My child is small. Can a booster seat be used?

Booster seats are not allowed because there is no way to properly secure them.
