Mr. Moldowan's History 12 Class

History 12: is an optional course in the social studies department. It is an academic course with written assignments, research reports, presentations, tests, and a final exam.
Supplies: There is a textbook provided however it is an older book so the course is supplemented with additional current material provided by the teacher. Students are expected to bring a notebook and a writing utensil to each class. Students with their own portable computer may use that in class for taking notes. Access to the internet at home is very beneficial for students.
Exam: The optional provincial exam for this course was cancelled for the year 2011-2012. There will be a locally developed final exam during the exam period at the end of the semester.
Course Summary: History 12 can be broadly described as a history of world affairs in the 20th century. There is an emphasis on the western world and its relation to world affairs. Among the topic areas explored: totalitarian regimes, the impact of the two world wars, the decline of European power, the polarization of the Cold War, the end of colonial empires, the rise and fall of communism, and the emergence of the modern world. Students taking this course must be prepared to undertake extensive reading and research assignments.

Absences: Most assignments and activities will be posted below as they occur. Students who miss classes are responsible for catching up on their work. Students who miss tests and quizes must make arrangements to write them during lunch or after school in Mr. Moldowan's room.
