Mr. Moldowan's Socials 9 Class Page

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it," - George Santayana
Socials 9 is a mandatory course for all grade 9 students. There are several teachers in the school who teach this course and each may have a slightly different method of approaching the material.
Supplies: Students are issued a textbook called Crossroads: A Meeting of Nations. They are expected to care for this book and return it in the condition issued to them. The textbook is to be brought to every class as it is often referred to. Students are expected to bring a notebook and a writing utensil to each class. Students with their own portable computer may use that in class for taking notes. Access to the internet at home is very benefitial for students.
Final Exam: There is a mandatory final exam written at the end of the course. It is a locally developed exam and is worth 20% of the final grade.
Course Summary: The first half of the course examines the transition of European society from the middle ages towards the more modern, industrial and democratic society we are familiar with today. Topics include the Renaissance, The English Civil War, The French Revolution, Napoleon, and the Industrial Revolution. The second half of the course examines the geography of North America, the aboriginal people of North America, early European colonization of Canada, the fur trade, the British conquest, the American Revolution, and the War of 1812.
Teacher Contact: Mr. Moldowan can best be reached by email at mmoldowan@sd62.bc.ca Please do not leave phone messages at school as it is difficult for me to retrieve them.
