Music
In music, the students work through group activities and individual assignments to learn or reinforce the basic fundamentals of rhythm, melody and music composition. The program is designed to include all students of all levels by learning musical concepts through various games, ear training exercises, and individual assignments. The goal is for the students to be able to write their own basic composition, play an old classic tune together as a class, and to strengthen their lifelong appreciation for music. Mr Rehman teaches Music at Journey.
Art
The focus of art in grades 6 and 7 is exploration, enjoyment and love of art. Art experiences are designed to include learning about and building on the students' knowledge of the elements and principles of art and design using a variety of media; artists and art history; and creative art production. Our goal is art appreciation everywhere we look.
Mrs Amundrud teaches and inspires Art at Journey.
Library
In Library (part of the MALT program) students learn library and research skills. They find out how the library is organized (the Dewey Decimal System) in order to locate books and how to use the automated online catalogue (L4U). They are taught how to acquire and analyze information from books, encyclopedias, magazines and the Internet. Instruction is given on note taking, categorizing and sequencing facts, and reporting information in their own words in multi-paragraph form. Mrs Fader teaches Library at Journey.
Theatre
In Theatre Arts (part of the MALT program) students develop their creative abilities and talents in acting. The exercises are designed to develop imagination and self confidence through drama games and activities. Improvisational games are used to teach dramatic concepts, allow students to think creatively, build and portray characters and scenes, and have fun. Mrs Fader teaches Theatre at Journey.
