Individual Education Plans

Students with Ministry designations are entitled to an individualized education plan so that they can meet their potential.

September:

Until a current IEP is drafted, Teachers follow last year's IEP. Each teacher will be given a copy of adaptations that they need to make to accommodate their IEP students' learning needs until the 2011/2012 plan is put together.

Case Managers:

A Case Manager is assigned to manage a student's IEP based on the student's designation. For example, a student with a Moderate Behaviour designation might be managed by the Behaviour Support Teacher.

IEP Meetings for the 2011/2012 School Year:

IEP meetings will be scheduled before the October 31st District deadline with the exception of newly designated or newly registered students.

Parents, students and teachers will be informed of the meeting date at least one week in advance. A letter of invitation is sent home, a follow-up phone call is made and a draft IEP is sent home, all in the hopes of bringing parent input into the process.

Student IEPs are scheduled following this priority list:

  1. Students on heavily modified programs.
  2. Students new to Journey. Grade 6 students.
  3. Students who will be transitioning out of Journey. Grade 8 students.
  4. Grade 7 students.

Students waiting for Ministry designation will have an IEP scheduled as soon as they receive Ministry designation. Please refer to the Links page to learn more about Ministry Designations.
