SASEENOS SCHOOL
CODE OF CONDUCT GUIDELINES
Saseenos School is always striving to make the school a place where everyone has the best possible opportunity to do his/her job. We will try to live up to the Seven Words of Conduct and statements of Behaviour to make our school how we want it to be.
SEVEN WORDS OF CONDUCT
The seven key words are the foundation for creating a positive, healthy learning environment in the classroom and in the whole school. Each word explains a belief about the way we want our students to be.
COOPERATION - Cooperate to make school a place to work and learn
HELP - Lend a helping hand
HONESTY - Be truthful about your actions
KINDNESS - Be nice to others
RESPECT - Respect others and their property
RESPONSIBILITY - Be in charge of your actions
SAFETY - Be careful and do not hurt yourself or others
STATEMENTS OF BEHAVIOUR
Everyone makes mistakes. Making mistakes is a way to learn; fixing the mistake strengthens the person. As students gain maturity and move through the grades, we expect increasing responsibility and understanding of the impact of one's actions; we expect self evaluation and self discipline. Our school is a safe and caring environment where we will all do the following:
Show respect to other people and their property
This means we will show people kindness and courtesy. We will help people; we will work to see that the property of others is not damaged; we will include others in activities; we will listen to what other people say and recognize what others do; we will follow directions. We will act in a manner that models behaviour for our school.
Act so we do not hurt other people or threaten to hurt or bully other people
This means we will not do anything that will hurt a person’s body or their feelings by actions or words. We will find ways to handle problems that avoid hurting others. We will inform a "tellable" adult in a timely fashion of incidents of bullying, harassment or intimidation.
Give others a chance to play and learn
This means we will help others to join in activities; we will cooperate with each other. We will try to bring a positive attitude to everything we do and recognize the efforts of others. We will respect the right of others to learn.
Make school a safe place to be
This means we will remind each other of ways to stay safe. We will keep our environment clean. We will be aware of emergency procedures and follow directions.
Foster an environment that is free of discrimination
This means students feel safe and feel that they belong and that they are free from discrimination. We promote a climate of understanding and mutual respect. No student will be denied the opportunity to participate in a school activity because of financial hardship.
Take responsibility for our actions
This means we will try to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality. We will cooperate with teachers and those in authority, follow school rules, be honest about our behaviur and do our work to the best of our ability. We understand that expectations for acceptable behaviour apply to behaviours at school and on school related activities.
School-based Corrective Actions and Support
Response to purposeful misbehaviour will aim to be proactive, reasonable, consistent, fair and relevant to the offense where possible. When a student’s action(s) demonstrate non-compliance with our school Code of Conduct and when the details of the incident have been fully determined, the student will be invited to make restitution before careful consideration of appropriate consequences will occur. The principal will keep a record of the incident. Depending upon the severity (some behaviours are "bottom line behaviours") and/or frequency of the inappropriate conduct and depending on the maturity and capability of the student, one or more of the following may occur:
Warning – verbal or written
Mediation or meeting
Suitable consequence such as writing a letter of apology
Serving a detention and/or making restitution
Loss of privileges: playground, lunch hour and field trips
Written notification to parents
In-school suspension
Referral to School Based Team or in-school support program
Counseling referral
Referral to other agencies
Out-of-school suspension
Referral to District Discipline Committee
R.C.M.P.
The school may have to advise other parties of serious breaches of conduct such as parents of victims, parents of offender, school district officials, other agencies, or all parents.
