Photojournalism. . .

Dear Parents and Guardians,

If anyone has digital cameras with memory cards that they no longer use and would like to donate, the Photojournalism and Computer Science department would very much appreciate it! Spencer offers photojournalism 8 & 9 and Yearbook 9 and we’re in desperate  need of extra cameras as we only have about 10 cameras for the class to use.

Thanks so much in Advance!

Mr. J. Carr (Photojournalism and Yearbook)

Mrs. Nixon (Photojournalism 8)

News thumbnail Spencer Spring Break Trip

We’re very excited about having a two week Spring Break next year!  We have started planning (28 participants have already enrolled) a once-in-a-lifetime trip for 15 days to Australia and New Zealand!  This trip will be open for all Spencer and Belmont students and their parents/guardians. We’re also excited to be planning this trip with Mr. Morrison from Belmont!   Combined, the three of us have taken students to Egypt, China, Japan, Costa Rica, Peru and Europe!

The quote (link below) for the 15 day tour includes flights, hotels, breakfasts, most dinners, a private motorcoach, and entrance fees. If you sign up by October 30th you will receive $250 off your trip!  I’ve also attached a colour brochure to this email.  We’ll continue with a scrap metal fundraiser at Spencer for the tips and spending money.

Principal's Message
Hello everyone!
I came to Spencer having begun my teaching career in East Vancouver, where I was the teacher at an Alternate School. My family and I (having family on Vancouver Island) were well aware that there’s “no life like island life”, and moved to Victoria where I was hired as a teacher in Sooke. I have been a vice principal at Dunsmuir, Edward Milne  Community School and a principal at Journey Middle School. My time at Spencer has been very positive, and I look forward to many more years here!

Our school goal is Social Responsibility. We firmly believe that if students feel safe and cared for at school they will perform well academically. Our focus on social responsibility is highlighted in many ways, including our support of the Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement and our use of restitutional practice to support good student behaviour.

Over the next few years students and parents will see Spencer come to life as we embark on a program to 'show what we know' with student created murals and artwork appearing throughout the school.
Let the show begin!

Life at Spencer

We’re up and running after a good Spring Break. The band went down to Anaheim to perform at the World Heritage Festival, and did very well. The kids had a great time at Universal Studios, Disneyland and California Adventure. The experience of performing at the Festival was amazing!
