 Welcome back!
It’s been an extremely interesting start-up this year. Timetables that we would normally print and review we were not able to print until  last Tuesday. We have ironed out most of the bugs in schedules and appreciate the patience your kids have shown as we sort things out.

We will be offering a peer tutor block to Grade 8’s in lieu of one of the exploratory rotations. Grade 8’s will be trained as peer tutors by Ms. Sagodi and then deployed to Grade 6 classes twice a week to help out. This is an exciting opportunity especially for those students who think they might want to be a teacher one day, or those students interested in the “people helping” professions!

Our welcome back assembly has been pushed to the end of September due to the extra load created by scheduling problems. Stay tuned next week for a firm date on this.

Spencer is currently hosting a larger student population than we have seen in the last 6 years. With this in mind, many of you have notice traffic is an issue at pick-up time. Please consider making arrangements to meet your child somewhere close to the school but not directly at the school. The traffic is causing our busses to run late as they are not able to get into the parking lot on some days as the traffic backs up Goldstream. We need to ensure that emergency medical can get to us as well.

Some dates to remember:
September 17                   PAC meeting 6:30  in the library
September 18                   Picture day and BBQ
September 21                   Pro-D. School not in session
September 24                   Meet the teacher 7pm in the gym
October 2                         Terry Fox run.
October 9                         Legacy 1 Hip-hop assembly focus on positive school culture
October 12                       Thanksgiving

Principal's Message
Hello everyone!
I came to Spencer having begun my teaching career in East Vancouver, where I was the teacher at an Alternate School. My family and I (having family on Vancouver Island) were well aware that there’s “no life like island life”, and moved to Victoria where I was hired as a teacher in Sooke. I have been a vice principal at Dunsmuir, Edward Milne  Community School and a principal at Journey Middle School. My time at Spencer has been very positive, and I look forward to many more years here!

Our school goal is Social Responsibility. We firmly believe that if students feel safe and cared for at school they will perform well academically. Our focus on social responsibility is highlighted in many ways, including our support of the Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement and our use of restitutional practice to support good student behaviour.

Over the next few years students and parents will see Spencer come to life as we embark on a program to 'show what we know' with student created murals and artwork appearing throughout the school.
Let the show begin!

Life at Spencer

We’re up and running after a good Spring Break. The band went down to Anaheim to perform at the World Heritage Festival, and did very well. The kids had a great time at Universal Studios, Disneyland and California Adventure. The experience of performing at the Festival was amazing!
