Come and join our Run/Walk-A-Thon for one of our own families - the Downey's!

April 25th, 9am to 2pm here at Spencer Middle School (on the back fields).

Download a pledge sheet, collect donations, sign in at our "Donations" tent and participate!

Funds will go to support an amazing family as they go through a very difficult time.

Zack Downey, a former student, is battling Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. His sister, Brooklyn, is in Gr.9 here at Spencer. Both Zack's mom and dad are not working in order to support Zack during his fight with cancer. Needless to say, financially things are really tough. Unfortunately, we can't make Zack's cancer go away but the students are keen to help and raising money is something they CAN do! But they need your help.

Please join our fight for Zack! For people who can’t participate but who would like to contribute to this amazing cause - donations are also being collected at our school office at 1026 Goldstream Ave. (cash, or cheque made out to “SD62” only please).

Donations can also be made on line at http://zacknation.com

News thumbnail Parent News Updates

With only three months of school left it is important that we maintain a focus on academic performance. If you continually get the “I don’t have any homework” message from your child, please don’t hesitate to contact the teachers directly to get an update.

The next PAC meeting will be on April 15th: SPC to meet at 6:30 and PAC at 7 in the Library.

Much discussion continues with respect to the next year as we head towards a 6-7-8 middle school. We are very excited to have the new high schools opening up in 2015. There will be a tremendous amount of planning at the middle schools before this date. The School Board will make a decision soon with respect to John Stubbs becoming a single track French Immersion school, which could affect our numbers here at Spencer. We’ll keep you posted on that one!

Principal's Message
Hello everyone!
I came to Spencer having begun my teaching career in East Vancouver, where I was the teacher at an Alternate School. My family and I (having family on Vancouver Island) were well aware that there’s “no life like island life”, and moved to Victoria where I was hired as a teacher in Sooke. I have been a vice principal at Dunsmuir, Edward Milne  Community School and a principal at Journey Middle School. My time at Spencer has been very positive, and I look forward to many more years here!

Our school goal is Social Responsibility. We firmly believe that if students feel safe and cared for at school they will perform well academically. Our focus on social responsibility is highlighted in many ways, including our support of the Aboriginal Enhancement Agreement and our use of restitutional practice to support good student behaviour.

Over the next few years students and parents will see Spencer come to life as we embark on a program to 'show what we know' with student created murals and artwork appearing throughout the school.
Let the show begin!

Life at Spencer

We’re up and running after a good Spring Break. The band went down to Anaheim to perform at the World Heritage Festival, and did very well. The kids had a great time at Universal Studios, Disneyland and California Adventure. The experience of performing at the Festival was amazing!
