August 28, 2014       Dear Parents and Guardians: This letter provides an update (as of 10:00 a.m., August 28, 2014) on the provincial labour dispute and its impact on schools in the Sooke School District.  As you may appreciate, information is changing daily, if not hourly, and some of the information I am sharing may be out of date at the time of reading. As you are likely aware, the British Columbia Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) and the British Columbia Public School Employers’ Association (BCPSEA) are currently attempting to reach a negotiated settlement to their collective agreement.  This effort has been ongoing for the last year and currently, teachers are on a legal strike. At this time it is unclear whether schools will open as scheduled on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014. Recent developments between the parties and Minister of Education, as well as the appointed mediator, appear to be ongoing.  Should a decision to return to work happen over the next four days

To our current students: We look forward to the opening of school and the opportunity to work with each of you for the up coming school year. With an unusual end to the school year in June and an uncertain beginning to the new school year this September, we acknowledge that many of you may have questions about courses and programs and looking for confirmation of enrolment and timetables for the first semester. For the week of August 25th to August 29th, we will be processing new student registrations for all of our programs. During this week we will not be able to produce student timetables or consider course changes.    It is our hope that we will be open on Tuesday, September 2nd, however if this is not the case, we will be open at the Langford Campus (#101 - 814 Goldstream Avenue) starting Tuesday, September 2nd from 9:00am to 3:00pm to help students with timetables and course selection as needed.
