New Students not presently attending a K-12 school in BC
Make an appointment to attend an Information Session with our academic advisor, Bonnie Benning 250-391-9002. Bring in all documentation including report cards, transcripts, certificates as well as work-related training.
Complete and sign a Personal Learning Plan with a counselor
Show proof of BC residency (either BC license, CARE card, hydro bill)
If required, arrange for an assessment
Pay any fees and text deposits for the courses enrolled in. (A post-dated cheque or credit card is required for text deposits.)
NOTE: Distributed Learning students taking on-line courses must also register for the Learning Strategies course and arrange a date to attend the mandatory orientation session.
If you are not attending another school and are enroling in the Academic Program for the first time, contact our office at 250-391-9002 to attend an Information Session with our counselor. All students under the age of 16 MUST have the Student Parent Roles forms signed by a parent or guardian along with the Personal Learning Plan - All Programs.
If it has been over 3 years since you attended high school please speak to the academic advisor about placement for Math and English.
Students previously registered with Westshore Centre
If you have previously completed a Personal Learning Plan with WestShore Centre, then simply contact the main office to register and pay applicable fees and postdated text deposits. All changes to your Personal Learning Plan must be approved and signed.
NOTE: If first time taking a Distributed Learning on-line course, students must also register for the Learning Strategies course and arrange a date to attend the mandatory orientation session.
Students enrolled in another school (cross enrolled)
Students who are attending another school who:
Want to take another course not available at their current school
Want to finish a partially completed a course
Want to take a paper-based or online option for a course
MUST complete a Cross Enrolment Learning Plan and have this signed by their school counselor as well as their parent or guardian. All parts of the form must be completed and signed before consideration for enrolment. Please review this form for available courses.
Course Changes
When a course seminar is cancelled or changed, WestShore Centre will provide you with alternate learning options for that course.
Withdrawing from a course
Non-attendance does not constitute withdrawal from a course. Students must notify the WestShore Centre office of a course withdrawal, in person, by phone or in writing or notify their teacher. Textbooks should be returned when withdrawing to avoid the text deposit being processed at the end of the course.
What paperwork do you need to do?
School-age students who are not attending school and wish to enroll full time should call to make an appointment with our counsellor.
School-age students who are still attending another school are advised to speak to their school counsellor. The ministry requires that all students complete a JDFDL Personal Learning Plan.
Adults who have not previously registered with JDFDL or with WestShore Centre for Learning & Training are advised to attend an Information Session with our counsellor. Please contact our office to make an appointment.
Personal Learning Plan
When you take courses for graduation with JDFDL, you are required to complete a Personal Learning Plan. This Plan helps you to set your learning goals and select the courses you require to graduate. To receive credit for all your previous schooling, please be certain to bring transcripts, resumes and other relevant documentation when you meet with our counsellor.
