The Sooke School District Board of Education is committed to ensuring that our learning environments are safe and inclusive for all students, staff, and families. One of our strategic priorities is creating a culture of belonging where students and staff feel a sense of belonging, regardless of our diverse backgrounds.
We are resolute in our responsibility to uphold the BC Human Rights Code where people are free from discrimination regardless of Indigenous identity, race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression or age. When our Board was elected last year, we publicly reaffirmed our support for the use of classroom materials that destigmatizes and normalizes conversations around gender identity and sexual orientation.
We stand with our students, staff and families, especially those from groups who have been historically marginalized. Our work in creating learning communities where students, staff and families feel safe, that they belong and are valued in our district is unwavering and carries on.
