School Capacity Status
Due to physical space limitations, the following schools have been deemed at full capacity for the 2022-23 school year:
- Happy Valley Elementary
- Belmont Secondary
At these schools, new in-catchment students may not be guaranteed placement in specific grades. In-catchment students who cannot be accommodated will be waitlisted for their catchment school and then placed at the closest possible school in the District, as space permits. Students placed at another school by the District, due to lack of available space in their catchment school, will be given priority to transfer to their catchment school, space pending, through the School Change Request Process which is open in March for the following school year. Transfer requests to full capacity schools can not be accommodated at this time.
The above designation of full capacity status does not affect students who are currently enrolled in schools or specific programs – this status only affects the placement of students who are new to the District, or those applying for out-of-catchment transfers.
All SD62 elementary schools offer full day kindergarten for our youngest learners. To register, children must turn five years of age by December 31 in the same calendar year that they begin school. Registration for kindergarten takes place in January.
Please visit the following pages for more information:
*Note: Parents MUST attend a Nature K info session prior to registration. Please see Nature Kindergarten page for dates.
Grades 1 – 12
New to our school district? If your child is in Grades 1-12, registration can be done online throughout the year.
Already enrolled in SD62? If you would like to consider a change of schools for your child, within our district, carefully read the School Change Request page and then fill out the form. There is no need to re-register your child as they transition grades.
We realize parents have many questions and concerns regarding the placement of their child. Although students register in January, the process for placement is may take time. Please call your catchment school after April 1 if you have questions or concerns. Your catchment school is responsible for ensuring that your child has a place in school.
Early French Immersion: January 10-14 (opens at 8:00 am on January 10th)
Students who opt for Early Immersion usually enter the program in Kindergarten and continue their French studies through to grade twelve. In Grade 12, they receive a ‘Double Dogwood’ (a bilingual graduation certificate). Students may also begin the program in Grade 1. Please visit the French Immersion – Kindergarten page for complete details regarding registration.
Late French Immersion: January 24-28
Students who choose late immersion will enter the French program in Grade 6 at École John Stubbs Memorial School. In Grade 8, late immersion students will merge with the students who enrolled in early immersion.
Parents must register online. When registering online, please select Late French Immersion as your preference.
As this is a popular program, parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
