Welcome to the Sooke School District

We welcome you and your child to our school district. This page contains important information for about the registration process for children new to the Sooke School District. If your child is currently enrolled in a SD62 school, a school change request form must be submitted (only accepted during the School Change Request period).

If the student is not a Canadian citizen, please visit the Newcomers page for more information.

School Capacity Status

Registration at several schools is limited due to constraints in physical space.

At these schools, new in-catchment students may not be guaranteed placement in specific grades. In-catchment students who cannot be accommodated will be waitlisted at their in-catchment school and then placed at a designated overflow school. Students placed at an overflow school by the district, due to lack of available space in their in-catchment school, will be given priority to transfer to their in-catchment school, space pending, through the School Change Request Process. Transfer requests to full capacity schools cannot be accommodated at this time.

The above designation of full capacity status does not affect students who are currently enrolled in schools or specific programs – this status only affects the placement of students who are new to the district, or those applying for in or out-of-catchment transfers.

French Immersion

Students who opt for Early Immersion usually enter the program in kindergarten and continue their French studies through to grade twelve. In grade 12, they receive a ‘Double Dogwood’ (a bilingual graduation certificate). Students may also begin the program in grade 1. Please visit the French Immersion – Kindergarten page for complete details regarding registration.

Students who choose late immersion will enter the French program in grade 6 at École John Stubbs Memorial School. In grade 8, late immersion students will merge with the students who enrolled in early immersion.

Parents/guardians must register online. When registering online, please select Late French Immersion as your preference.

Visit the French Immersion page to see a list of our schools that offer French Immersion as well as more information about French in our District.
