Parents or guardians can register their child for kindergarten if the child turns 5 years old on or before December 31 of that school year. For example, for the 2026/27 school year, eligible children are those born between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021. There are no exceptions.
Please note we are unable to accept out of district registrations. Please contact your local school district for registration information.
As a growing school district, some of our schools are nearing capacity. Visit our Student Enrolment Priorities page to learn more.

Kindergarten is considered as an optional program by the Ministry of Education. Parents/Guardians can also defer kindergarten for one year. Parents are required to have their children registered for school or homeschooling by the calendar year in which they turn six. If parents choose to delay school enrolment for their five-year-old, they should discuss with the school principal the best placement for their child.
All kindergarten students must enroll at their in-catchment school for the program of their choice (French Immersion, Nature Kindergarten or Regular Kindergarten. Our School Locator tool will identify your in-catchment school.
If you would like to try transfer your kindergarten student to another school after you have registered, please complete the School Change Request form during the designated timeframe. Please note that change requests are not guaranteed.
School change requests are subject to our student enrollment priorities and capacity. The majority of our elementary schools do not have the capacity to accept out-of-catchment students.
You will have first priority to return to your catchment area school when space is available.
There is typically a lottery for French Immersion and Nature Kindergarten. If a Regular Kindergarten program at an elementary school receives more registrations than available seats, a lottery will be held.
In the event of a lottery, one ballot will be entered into the draw for families with multiples (twins or triplets). If drawn, multiples will be offered placement in the program at the same school provided there is space. If there is not enough space, the district will look to place multiples at a different school with available space.
Unfortunately, no. Children must be five years old on or before December 31 of their entry year to register for kindergarten. This requirement is set in accordance with Ministry of Education and Child Care funding eligibility criteria. The Ministry only provides funding for children who meet the age requirement, and as a result, schools cannot accept registrations for children who are not yet five years old.
