Homeschooling is a classroom alternative offered outside of the BC education system. Typically, a home educator (parent or guardian) delivers the entire education program to children at home. By law, all children in BC must be educated, making it necessary for homeschooled children to be registered. Contact info@sd62.bc.ca for information on registering your homeschool child. There is no funding sent to parents/guardians.
Homeschool programs are not:
- Supervised by a BC-certified teacher
- Required to meet provincial standards
- Inspected by the Ministry of Education and Child Care
The school or school district has no authority to approve or supervise the educational program of a homeschooled child.
Homeschoolers are not eligible to receive a British Columbia Dogwood Graduation Certificate.
Children in grades 10, 11, or 12 may enrol in a online learning course and also be registered as a homeschooler.
