CONSTRUCTION OF TWO NEW SCHOOLS GOES TO FARMER CONSTRUCTION

WEST SHORE – Building one school is a big task. Now, try building two schools at the same time. After reviewing the submissions, Sooke School District has decided that Farmer Construction Ltd. is the company to take on the $55.2 million project.

“It’s always an exciting day when we award a contract to build new schools in SD62,” says SD62 Board Chair, Ravi Parmar. “We are really looking forward to getting these schools built to support the exponential growth we are facing in the West Shore. I know families in West Langford are excited about the day when they can walk to schools within their own neighbourhood.”

The SD62 Board of Education selected Farmer Construction as the builder, with architectural designs by HCMA, of the 500-seat Pexsisen Elementary School and 700-seat Centre Mountain Lellum Middle School. As part of their proposal, Farmer Construction will be utilizing a number of sub-contractors based in the South Island. Farmer will also work with the school district to engage and hire students to work on the project.

“Our district has fantastic trades programs for students and we’re pleased that Farmer Construction will be working with us to provide opportunities to our students to work and gain real-life skills, training and employment experience,” says Parmar.

In August, Farmer Construction, along with three other construction companies, submitted their proposals for the construction of Pexsisen Elementary and Centre Mountain Lellum Middle schools. Construction begins later this month with completion set for September 2022.
