BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CHILDCARE ASSISTANT  ON-CALL POSITIONS FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRIT FOR THE BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CHILDCARE PROGRAMS AT JOHN STUBBS, POIRIER, RUTH KING, SANGSTER AND SAVORY ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. The shifts are approximately: Before School: 7:30 am to 8:50 am After School: 2:40 pm to 5:30 pmKNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE 1.             Secondary school graduation or equivalent2.             Holder of Responsible Adult in Child Care Setting Certificate or equivalent3.             Minimum one year of related experience providing care to children 5.             Knowledge and understanding of basic bookkeeping 6.             Holds a valid First Aid Certificate (as determined by the employer) or is willing to obtain valid certification7.             Holds a valid Food Safe Certificate or is willing to obtain valid certification 9.             Physical ability to respond to student needs SKILLS AND ABILITIES actively shows courtesy and respect to all, proactively builds healthy and trusting relationships with all; contributes to a positive working environment; supports a welcoming and safe environment that values and appreciates differences and is reflective of everyone; shows kindness and cares about the well-being of colleagues and students; demonstrates patience and acceptance with others. 2.             Effectively Communicates and Collaborates: clearly articulates thoughts and ideas and shares timely and relevant information openly, honestly, and respectfully using oral, written, and visual formats; actively listens and respond appropriately; seeks opportunities to gain input and is open minded to the ideas and point of views of others; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with local communities, outside partner groups, and families as required. 3.             Strives for Personal Excellence:  is mindful, remains calm and responds thoughtfully; takes pride in work; possesses strong attention to detail; takes initiative and proactively plans, prioritizes, and organizes work; follows the District’s Code of Conduct and values; follows through on commitments and takes responsibility for actions; respects the confidential nature of all information relating to students, parents, and staff; keeps in mind the safety of others, including school children. 4.             Thinks Critically and Creatively:  asks questions for better understanding; uses a solution-based approach to analyze relevant facts, evidence, and data to determine specific issues and inform ways forward; thinks outside of the box; looks for opportunities to continuously improve. 5.             Practices a Growth Mindset:  demonstrates a positive outlook towards learning and is committed to ongoing development to expand skill set; stays current; reflects on self to continually learn and improve; remains positive; demonstrates adaptability and is willing and able to adjust to changes.   RESPONSIBILITIES 2.             Provides care, guidance and engaging activities to children in the program 3.             Dispenses first aid, if needed 4.             Supervises snack time 5.             Ensures that VIHA Child Care Facility guidelines are followed and license requirements are always met 6.             Liaises, when needed, with VIHA, the school administration and the District Principal – Early Learning & Childcare (or their designate) 7.             Responds to parent/caregiver, family and community requests for information and resources 8.             Ensures all cleaning protocols and health orders are being followed 9.             Performs other related duties as time permits and/or assigned as required 10.         Participates in training and professional learning as required The starting hourly rate for this on-call position is $29.89 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.   Please note that failure to attach all pertinent information (i.e.: certificates, outline of relevant experience, resume, etc.) to demonstrate that you are qualified may exclude you from this posting.
