10,000 Tonight Returns to Colwood and Sooke thanks to Royal Bay Secondary School and Edward Milne Community School

Date

We are proud of our secondary school students, staff and volunteers who are gearing up to support two local food banks just in time for the holiday season.

10,000 Tonight - Royal Bay Secondary School (Colwood)

Students will be going door to door around Colwood on Nov 30 from 5 - 9 p.m. asking for non-perishable food items or monetary donations (cash or cheque) to help support the Goldstream Food Bank during this holiday season.

There are some keyways that you can provide support:

  • VOLUNTEER! We need drivers (50 of them!) to help take our volunteers on routes throughout the community.  There is also a need for volunteers to help sort and organize when it arrives back at Royal Bay. Sign up through our google form to provide your support via this link: https://forms.gle/ZexjGprA6XLwaqSc6
  • BRING IN FOOD! We will have a drop-off box located in the aviary for students to bring in their non-perishable food item donations over the next couple of weeks.
  • DONATE! We accept cash donations, cheques (payable to the Goldstream Food Bank Society or the Sooke School District), or you can choose to donate directly online via the link to our school cash online system).

  • SPREAD THE WORD. Do you have a business that would be willing to donate? We are looking for door prizes for our volunteers as well as donations that can go to the food bank (either non-perishable items or monetary donations).  We can also send you posters to put up to help raise awareness!

10,000 Tonight - Edward Milne Community School (Sooke)

EMCS is collecting monetary donations once again this year because it proved to be most helpful to the Sooke food bank, allowing them to use their superior buying power to supply community members items which are most needed during this holiday.

How we are collecting donations:

  • Students standing outside of local businesses (Western and Village Foods) each day of the event
  • Donation tins inside businesses,
  • Class competitions at Journey Middle School and EMCS
  • An online auction with items supplied by the local Sooke businesses
  • We will have the school cash online set up to take donations as well (QR code pending).

The event will run from November 28 to December 9, our goal is to raise $10,000 which will go exclusively to the Sooke Food bank in hopes of helping provide each and every family in Sooke with food this holiday season. This will be EMCS’ 8th annual December fundraiser for the Sooke food bank and the EMCS leadership team has been working very hard to see it as a success.
